RALEIGH, N.C. — A junior at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington has been crowned 2014’s Miss North Carolina.
Beth Stovall won the competition Saturday night at Raleigh’s Memorial Auditorium with her operatic vocal performance of “Je Veux Vivre” from Gounod’s opera Romeo and Juliet.
Organizers said Stovall is a UNCW junior majoring in vocal performance. She now prepares to compete for the title of Miss America in Atlantic City, New Jersey in September.
The Goldsboro resident’s platform is “Inspiration: Art” which seeks to inspire students to explore and discover their talents, according to organizers of the event.
Stovall was the top viewer choice out of the more than 250,000 votes submitted. She is Miss Greater Sampson County. Miss Cabarrus County, McKenzie Faggart, was runner-up.
