GREENSBORO, N.C. — A recent string of home break-ins in the Forest Oaks area has many residents beefing up security in their homes and keeping watch of their neighborhoods.
Within the last two weeks, three homes have been burglarized.
"June 5th, we had our first break-in in Forest Oaks,” said Captain Doug Burroughs of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office. “We had another one June 8th and another one June 11th."
Kim Taylor’s home was one of them.
"It was just surreal,” said Taylor who lives on Forest Oaks Drive. “It was like I was in a movie. It was unbelievable."
"They had taken all of our electronics, all the TVs, IPods, IPhones, computers, everything,” she said. “They stole my vehicle out of the garage as well."
Two arrests have been made in connection with the break-in at Taylor’s home.
Burroughs says law enforcement is investigating whether or not all three break-ins are related but have stepped up patrols in the meantime.
"From CID to undercover officers, we even had our airplane up," Burroughs said.
Residents like Steven Farrar have been keeping close watch over the neighborhood since the break-ins, even posting alerts from law enforcement to social media.
"You should just wonder about your neighbors,” Farrar said. “Know who your neighbors are."
They’re the kind of precautionary steps Taylor says she'll be taking from now on.
"It's affected all of us," she said.
On Monday June 23rd, the Forest Oaks community will have a second meeting with the Sheriff’s Office to discuss the break-ins.
