Man on bicycle hit and killed by box truck in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police said a 72-year-old man riding a bicycle died after being hit by a box truck while crossing the road.

James Medley was hit while crossing the 2400 block of Randleman Road shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday, according to Greensboro police.

Police said Medley was taken to Moses Cone Hospital with critical injuries and died Friday after arriving. Medley was a Greensboro resident.

Medley had been riding a bicycle on Randleman Road and was struck by a box truck driven by a Charlottesville, Va. man, police said.

Officials said the truck was northbound on Randleman Road. Police said the investigation is ongoing and the box truck driver will not be charged.

    Very sad. I do think it’s time for GSO and actually, NC in general, to make it a law for bicyclist to stay to the right shoulder of the roads. Not saying this man was in the middle of the road, mind you, but I wish there’d be some common sense laws about bikes being on the side of the road (due to not being able to keep up with traffic) rather than having the right to be all over the road. It’s simple safety. I hate to hear of these things. Very sad.
