Strong storms down trees, power lines in Surry Co.

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Strong storms moved through Surry County on Tuesday afternoon causing downed trees and power lines, according to Surry Emergency Management Director John Shelton.

More than 700 customers were without power for a period of time. According to Duke Energy, power has been restored for most.

The storms moved through between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Trees are down on Taylor Street, Riverside Drive and Clyde Street.

Shelton said trees fell on a building and a car. No injuries were reported.
