WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Quick-thinking customers kept damage to a minimum in a fire tonight at the Wal-Mart on Kester Mill Road in Winston-Salem.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported that the call came in just before 7 p.m. Customers had already put the fire out with a small extinguisher before firefighters arrived.

Battalion Chief Charles Hampton said Sunday night that the store would be closed until about 9 p. m. as investigators try to determine the cause of the fire.

Damage was estimated at $150.

Didn’t they have another suspicious fire at the same location a few months back (in the clothing department)? Perfect diversion for shoplifters to “do their thing” and get out undetected.
