SPENCER, N.C. — Police in Wrightsville Beach took a man into custody in connection to a homicide that occurred in Spencer, according to WSOC-TV.

Rodney Wallace was arrested Thursday in Wrightsville Beach and is charged in the death of Toney Johnson.

Officials said the victim’s body was found between two homes in a Spencer neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the suspect was sitting in a car outside the town hall with his girlfriend near the police station during his arrest.

Police said his girlfriend got a text message on her phone from someone letting her know that he was suspected of beating and killing Johnson.

The girlfriend jumped out of the car and started screaming in the parking lot that she was with a murderer, according to police.

A parks and rec worker heard her and ran into the police department to get help, according to WSOC.

Police came out and took Wallace into custody.

Wallace was convicted of assault on a female and domestic criminal trespass just three months ago.

It is pretty brazen or pretty stupid of someone who is wanted to sit outside of the police department.
