BOONE, N.C. — A convicted sex offender was arrested Sunday night in Boone when police say he was caught peeping in windows and making sexual gestures at a toddler.

Police received a call Sunday about a suspicious man peeping into two different windows at College Place Apartments.

Officers later identified the man as Linville Wiles, 39, of Boone.

An apartment resident told police Wiles was seen looking through a window and making sexual gestures at her 2-year-old daughter.

When a resident confronted the man, he told them he was trying to sell a food stamp card.

Wiles was charged with one count of misdemeanor secret peeping and one count of felony attempting to sell a food stamp card. Wiles was placed in the Watauga County Jail under a $15,000 secured bond pending a July 7 appearance.
