SALISBURY, N.C. — A woman has been charged after deputies say she tattooed her 12-year-old daughter.

WBTV is reporting that someone saw the tattoo on the young girl’s arm and alerted officials with the Rowan County Department of Social Services, who then contacted the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

Anna Marie Yates, 29, was charged last week with tattooing a person under 18.

The report does not indicate whether the mother is licensed or permitted to tattoo, but state law requires people to be at least 18 years old to get a tattoo.

Yates will appear in court at the end of June.
