Winston-Salem man wrecks car on way to hospital after being shot in face

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. —  A man wrecked his car as he was driving himself to the hospital after being shot in the face in Winston-Salem Tuesday, authorities say.

Police responded to a traffic accident early Tuesday morning to find the 47-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to his face.

The victim told police he made arrangements to meet an unknown man in the 1000 block of East 17th Street. When he arrived at the location, several men approached his vehicle and an argument ensued.

The victim said one of the men shot him in the face. He then attempted to drive himself to the hospital when he wrecked the car.

The victim was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Officials say his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The investigation is ongoing.
