EDEN, N.C. — People in the Eden area who heard loud booms on Sunday should not be alarmed, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Wellons Energy Solutions conducted a series of steam blows as part of a cleaning and testing process.

During this process, high pressure steam is vented into the air and can sound like an explosion up to five miles away.

Officials said the steam blows were conducted in half hour intervals between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
