Man arrested for assault with a deadly weapon in Burlington

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Police have arrested a man in connection with assault with a deadly weapon following a dispute this morning in the parking lot of a Burlington business.

Officers responded to the Country Grill, located at 2033 N. Church St., around 8:30 a.m. in reference to a person who had been cut with a knife.

Following an investigation, officers learned that Dewey Ridgeway, 62, and James Brown, 54, were engaged in a dispute over property which was believed to belong to Ridgeway.

A verbal altercation began inside the restaurant and continued to the parking lot. Once outside, Ridgeway kicked Brown in the buttocks. A physical fight started between the two men. During the altercation Brown produced a knife and assaulted Ridgeway.

Ridgeway suffered potentially life threatening lacerations to the neck and abdomen. He was transported to Alamance Regional Medical Center for treatment. As of Friday afternoon he was listed in stable condition.

Brown was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury and received a $10,000 bond.

Charges against Ridgeway are still under review.
