GREENSBORO, N.C. -- An 81-year-old taxi cab driver was cut when he was assaulted by a man with a knife early Thursday morning in Greensboro.

The driver told police he was in his taxi in the area of John’s Curb Market on Market Street when he was approached by a man who showed a knife and demanded money.

When the victim refused to give him money, the suspect slashed his right hand causing a minor injury.

The driver’s grandson, Yott Shaw, says his grandfather has been a cab driver for more than 55 years.

The suspect, who then fled the scene, was wearing a mask over his face.

“I worry about him at his age and how long he's been doing this, I do worry a lot about him,” said Shaw. “Anytime someone gets behind you, it’s a cash business. A lot of people know that, so when they get hard up for cash, we become a target. And we work late at night.”
