COOLEEMEE, N.C. -- People driving by on N.C. 801 in the Davie County town of Cooleemee can’t help but notice a front porch and yard full of colorful wood carvings.

Totem Poles, critters of all kinds and caricatures of people catch the attention of anyone passing by.

The artwork is the creation of Neal Lyerly. He creates a new work just about every day and never knows what he’s going to make until he gets started.
