Troopers identify pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle on I-85 in Guilford Co.
GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A pedestrian struck and killed on Interstate 85 in Guilford County has been identified as a 23-year-old Elon University student taking a semester off.
Sheldon Roberson stepped out into traffic near mile marker 118 and was struck around 10 p.m. Saturday, according to Highway Patrol.
Authorities said he was by a family from Delaware in a Kia. Troopers said Roberson walked into their lane.
The victim was not wearing reflective clothing and there were no lights in the area, so it was hard for the family to see him, according to troopers. The driver will not be charged.
The victim was from Spartanburg, S.C. but lived in Elon. He was in town for a wedding, according to officials. He worked as an assistant to the designer, stitcher and wardrobe at Orlando Shakes.
Authorities said he had wrecked his car about 200 yards from where he was hit.
Autopsy results are pending. The investigation is ongoing.
