COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police in Ohio said a 4-year-old girl drowned in a pool during a birthday party on Saturday evening while guests were singing “Happy Birthday” to another child, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Authorities said 75-100 partygoers were singing “Happy Birthday” to a 1-year-old when multiple adults spotted Sinaia M. Moore at the bottom of the pool.

They attempted to revive Moore until paramedics arrived and took her to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police said the girl had been wearing a personal floatation device, but it had been removed.

Family members told police they thought the girl had gone inside or was playing on a nearby trampoline, according to WBNS.

“I see nothing that indicates that anyone was inattentive, negligent in any manner,” Holzhauser told The Columbus Dispatch. “It just seems like this is clearly a sad, unfortunate accident.”

I just don’t understand this….for any parent not be watching the pool at all times is not a responsible parent.NEVER assume anything, ALWAYS keep your eyes on your child or (any child) when around water……My heart goes out to this family BUT it could have been so easily prevented.RIP little one~

Oh, Sally Jane, I know you think you’re prefect and nothing like this could ever happen to you. Tell me… do you sit beside your child’s bed with toothpicks holding your eyes open to make sure you can watch every move she/he makes at all times? Oh, wait, perhaps you’re only perfect when you’re around water. Just think of all the children that have accidentally drowned throughout the ages – all of those evil, non-caring, irresponsible parents!!!! Because tragic accidents NEVER happen – it’s always someone’s fault! (You are an idiot)

75-100 people at a child’s birthday party is A LOT! The article doesn’t mention her parents even once. We don’t even know if they were at the party. I know I used to drop my son off at birthday parties when he was young especially if other family members were going to be there. It isn’t like 2 parents were watching TV inside not paying attention. I don’t think this can be blamed on the parents or anyone really. Focus turned to singing “Happy Birthday” for just a moment. Sad, sad, sad but just an unfortunate accident.

First of all if the other child was the sibling to the little girl then obvi they were present at the siblings birthday party. Next, they should have had the child next to her sibling while singing happy birthday, and if they knew the pool was open, they should have kept her life vest on. A 4 year old is not going to know that she doesn’t know how to swim or float without a life vest. This is sad and tragic and my heart breaks for these people.

      • Yep, that's what I said

Arent you just the model parent? “Should have done this and should have done that.” Maybe you SHOULD read the article – it never said the 4 year old that died was a sibling. And maybe you SHOULD be more understanding and compassionate. A child died. A family is forever changed by this and instead of giving them your expert opinion on what they SHOULD have done, why dont you instead stop what you’re doing and pray for them and be thankful that it’s not your family dealing with this.

      • .

it wasnt a sibling, and the mother was on bedrest and not able to attend. it is a very sad situation and can you imagine being the mom and getting that phone call? have some compassion!!!

I am so sorry to read this. This is so sad. With that said, was the pool not fenced in? Unless you have an adult that is doing nothing but keeping an eye on the pool, the gate should be locked. If there is no fence and gate…get one. This could have been prevented.

  • Just a Mom

OK…so they thought this 4 year old was on a trampoline? Um….not sure this is no neglect…..did not think they were in the pool…maybe on trampoline unattended???? WOW Call me what you want people…but as a mother of FOUR….I never let one of them out of my site….someone would have been assigned to watch one while I was attending to another’s party.
