WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A woman jumped from a second-floor balcony to escape a fire at her home in Winston-Salem early Thursday morning.

The fully engulfed fire started just after 4 a.m. at 225 N. Westview Drive.

Officials say the woman living at the home jumped from the second story balcony to escape the fire before crews arrived. She sustained minor ankle injuries from the jump.

Crews battled the fire which was extinguished by 5:45 a.m.

After an investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical short in the attic, according to officials.

Property damage was estimated at $400,000.  The loss of the contents inside her home, which included a large collection of antiques, was estimated at $100,000.
