CHICAGO — A family escaped serious injuries after a deer fell from an overpass and crashed through their van’s windshield on Monday.
Heidi Conner and her four kids were traveling over 70 mph on Interstate 90 when the animal apparently “fell from the sky.”
Conner was able to steer the vehicle through three lanes of traffic to get to the side of the interstate.
“If it had been one inch to the left, it would have been dead center. I wouldn’t have been able to control the car. And one inch to the right, it would have killed my son,” she told CBS Chicago.
Illinois Police State Trooper Justin Novarro told CBS Chicago a witness spotted the deer as it jumped or fell off an overpass.
“Never in my career have I seen anything like this,” Novarro said.
The family sustained minor injuries.
