Charlotte store owner shoots, injures alleged armed robber

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said a business owner shot and injured a man accused of trying to rob his store Sunday afternoon in Charlotte.

WBTV reported that the owner of Whole Sale Mattress Store on South Boulevard and Starmount Cove Lane shot a suspect during an armed robbery.

Police said it happened between 1:30 and 2 p.m. as two men allegedly tried to rob the owner at gunpoint.

The owner shot first and hit one of the suspects, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police said one of the suspects fired back at the owner but missed. A third suspect was reportedly waiting for the other two in a car.

The injured suspect was hospitalized and is expected to survive, according to officials. The investigation is ongoing.
