If you’re packing a picnic for a day at the beach, or maybe just taking lunch out to the pool, there are some foods that are better left at home.
There are more cases of food poisoning in the summer than any other season.
FOX8’s Shannon Smith visited with the culinary instructors at GTCC in Jamestown Thursday to learn food safety tips for the summer.
Here are some tips for eating outside this summer:
Mayonnaise and other condiments: It’s probably best to take condiment packets on your picnic to make sure they don’t go bad.
Cleaning solution: Two tablespoons of bleach to one gallon of water. Use to clean surfaces when cooking outside.
Hand sanitizer and gloves: To keep your hands clean and protect hands when handling food.
Keep everything cold: Plan on keeping food cold and eating food cold. It’s easier to keep things cold than try to have hot food when eating a picnic.
Other things to bring: Bug spray, flashlight, compass, sunscreen.
