Burlington man accused of kidnapping, assaulting girlfriend

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A Burlington man was arrested after police say he kidnapped and assaulted his girlfriend.

Robert James Starner Jr., 22, is charged with second-degree kidnapping, felony breaking and entering and assault on a female.

Police responded to the 600 block of West Davis Street around 8 p.m. Monday in reference to an assault.

The female victim and several witnesses told officers the woman was assaulted by her boyfriend.

The woman told police she tried to hide in a friend’s home, but her boyfriend broke into the house and went after her.

When the woman try to flee the home on foot, she says her boyfriend caught her and forced her into his car while assaulting her.

The woman received minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

Starner is in jail on a domestic hold. His first appearance in court is Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
