Seagrove man arrested after shooting at deputy

SEAGROVE, N.C. — A Seagrove man has been arrested after firing a gun at a deputy who responded to a 911 call about a suicide threat Saturday afternoon.

Deputy John Martin responded to 5377 Ridge Road in Seagrove and spoke with Zane Lee Thomas, 47, who lives at the residence.

Thomas shot at the deputy with a handgun after realizing he was law enforcement, according to a press release.

Deputy Martin returned fire and arrested Thomas.

No one was injured in the incident.

Thomas is charged with attempted first degree murder and felony assault of law enforcement officer with a firearm.

Thomas is being held in the Randolph County Jail under no bond.
