DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Authorities are investigating two deaths in Davidson County Monday morning.
The N.C. Highway Patrol first responded to a fatal single-vehicle wreck around 12:40 a.m. on I-85 near U.S. 64 in Davidson County.
Officers say Courtney Michelle Brown, 33, of Lexington, was killed in the crash.
Brown was driving the wrong way on an entrance ramp when her car ran off the road and struck a tree.
It was reported that she was driving 50 mph at the time of the wreck and was not wearing a seat belt.
A few hours later, around 6 a.m., deputies from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a body on the side of I-85 in the area of the earlier accident, according to a press release.
The man appeared to have head injuries and was dead on the scene. The exact cause of death is being investigated.
Authorities say the woman in the crash and the man on the side of the road were seen together earlier in the evening.
Both bodies have been sent to the medical examiner's office.
The investigating is ongoing.
