VENICE, Fla. – A fisherman got a big surprise when the catch he luring in turned out to be a 12-foot hammerhead shark.
WPTV reported that Noe Campos recently caught the shark while fishing with friends off a pier in Venice, Florida.
He reportedly wrestled with the line for a couple hours and then jumped in the water.
“People call me crazy but, I’d rather save a fish,” Campos said, according to WPTV.
The fish turned out to be an injured hammerhead shark that was pregnant.
Campos and his friends rescued several of the baby sharks, but the mother shark did not survive its injuries.
