VIRGINIA — A military couple is counting their blessings after their baby, who was born 18 weeks early, survived an emergency C-section.
The wife of a Virginia-based soldier delivered the tiny, 14 ounce baby boy Tuesday in California — at just 22 weeks pregnant. He weighed less than a pint of milk.
James Maize flew out to be with his wife, who had a complication with the umbilical cord that put the baby’s life in jeopardy.
The couple’s daughter died last year, also when the mother was only 22 weeks into her pregnancy.
Maize and his wife will spend many months visiting their son in intensive care.
