A final tally shows Clay Aiken wins Democratic primary by 390 votes.

According to WRAL, the State Board of Elections show Clay Aiken with 11,678 votes in the Democratic race in the 2nd Congressional District; Keith Crisco with 11,288 votes, and Toni Morris with 5,616 votes.

Aiken’s opponent, Keith Crisco, died suddenly Monday in an accidental fall at his home in Asheboro. His long-time campaign strategist Brad Crone said Tuesday that Crisco apparently slipped on a rug outside his home and fell backwards, hitting his head.

Aiken will now face Republican incumbent Renee Ellmers in November in the GOP-leaning 2nd Congressional District.
