East Forsyth High teacher injured trying to break up fight at school; student arrested

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. -- An East Forsyth High School teacher was injured and a student was arrested following an altercation at the school on Tuesday.

Around 10:30 a.m., a Kernersville police school resource officer at East Forsyth responded to an assault call in a classroom.

Upon arrival, the officer found a female teacher that had been injured while attempting to separate two students involved in a verbal altercation. The teacher was struck in the face when a student attempted to strike another student with his fist.

The teacher was taken to Kernersville Medical Center for treatment. Her injuries were serious but non-life threatening, police said.

A 17-year-old student was arrested and charged with assault inflicting serious injuries and also for disorderly conduct on educational property. He was placed in the Forsyth County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.

The other student was not charged.
