Greensboro law enforcement event to cause road closure

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro city officials said  Federal Place between McGee Street and Washington Street will be closed to traffic Saturday, May 10th, 2014 between 6:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. for the 24th Annual Law Enforcement Memorial 5K Race.

Traffic will also be impacted in the downtown district, and along the route on Spring Garden Street, Tate Street Market Street and Spring Street, according to authorities. All roads should be fully open by 11:30 a.m.

Officials said the downtown race is one of several local events during National Police Week to honor police officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice serving our communities.  Proceeds from the race are donated to Special Olympics.

The registration fee is $25. Only pre-registered runners are guaranteed T-shirts. Prizes will be awarded in male and female categories.

Hosted by the Greensboro Police Department, the 5K is co-sponsored by the Guilford Merchants Association and the Special Olympics of North Carolina.
