UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies say a man is charged with assault on a child after he tried to attack an 11-year-old boy with a baseball bat at a youth league practice.

According to WSOC, Michael McCoy thought his son was being bullied by another boy during baseball  practice.

Witnesses say they saw the 45-year-old man retrieve a baseball bat and chase after the 11-year-old in question.

The baseball team’s coach stepped in between the boy and the man just in time.

McCoy was banned from the baseball field.

McCoy is out on bond.

He will reportedly complete an anger management program.
