CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Champion swimmer Michael Phelps will take another step in his comeback at a Grand Prix meet in Charlotte this month.

The event will be held May 16.

Phelps has entered the 100-meter butterfly and the 200 freestyle, his coach, Bob Bowman, told The Associated Press.

Both events are on the same day, with the hopes to build up Phelps’ endurance.

Phelps returned to competition at a meet in Arizona less than two weeks ago, his first since retiring after the 2012 London Games as the most decorated athlete in Olympic history.

Phelps is the three-time defending Olympic champion in the 100 fly. He won the 200 free at the 2008 Beijing Games, during his record eight-gold performance, but dropped the event in London.

After the Charlotte meet, Phelps will head to Colorado for high-altitude training beginning May 27.

Who cares….just another Brett Favre….in and out of retirement! When you retire, you seriously retire and be done with the sport. Dont leave and come back and try to gain fame again! Such a nonsense sport anyways.

You sound jealous. Too bad you don’t retire from drinking PBR eh? I guess you would just start back tomorrow anyway.

Swimming’s not football. In football, a 38 year old with no business on the field can find a team because of the money his name will draw. In swimming, if you don’t prove you’re one of the two fastest swimmers nationally in your events at Trials, you watch the Olympics on TV.
