Hoang Thanh Trinh, 32, of Dorchester, Mass., was driving a 2003 Lexus from New York when he was stopped around 7 p.m. on I-85 South in Davidson County for impeding the flow of traffic, according to officers.

Officers located 57 pounds of “high grade” marijuana in two large duffel bags in the trunk of┬áTrinh’s vehicle.

The approximate street value of the marijuana is $140,000.

Trinh is charged with three counts of trafficking marijuana by possession/transportation/manufacture, felony maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Trinh is in the Davidson County Jail under a $1,000,000 bond. His court date is scheduled for May 29.

BTW, I hope the police found out who the shipper was and the receiver was supposed to be so they can surprise everyone involved. Mr Trinh might have a lot of incentive to cough up that information!

Sexually assult a child and attack a family member with an Ax and get a 50,000 Bond.. Get caught with pot and your treated worse than a Child Molester… Makes Sense?? I think NOT

  • The truth

Yea harm a child an your bond is less than 2000 I’m glad north Carolina’s priorities are worrying about something that’s already legal in a lot of states spend that time and manpower against child abusers and people committing real crimes

For those of us who are asking how the bond is so low, it goes back to MONEY. The government is not so concerned that this man is selling “The Devil’s Herb” to children; no, he is making money that he will not report on a tax return. THAT”S the problem. And they are too short-sighted to see the money they could make if we would follow Colorado’s lead.

So built a pipe bomb and have a criminal record and you get $40,000 bond, transport pot and you get $1,000,000 bond.
    I don’t understand.

“impeding the flow of traffic” on I-85, in Davidson County, at 7pm on a Wednesday evening? Really? This sounds more like a profiling issue to me. Firstly, anyone who travels I-85 through Davidson County on a regular basis, knows it’s a speed trap. Secondly, I’ve been through Davidson County during the week at that time of evening. There are three lanes north and southbound, therefore, he could not have been seriously “impeding the flow of traffic”, unless he slowed other drivers down to the point the speed traps were unfruitful.

This was a bogus excuse for a traffic stop, and the cops got the luck of the draw by finding marijauna.

If I were him, I would fight the traffic stop as an illegal stop and thus an unlawful search and seizure.
