WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police are searching for a man in connection with the robbery of a Winston-Salem business Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the Waughtown Market, located at 67 Waughtown St., around 10:20 a.m. in reference to an armed robbery.

The store clerk told officers a man entered the store and asked to purchase a cigar. When the clerk opened the register, the suspect produced a handgun and reached over the counter, taking an undisclosed sum of currency.

The suspect fled the scene on foot east on Waughtown Street. K-9 track was not attempted due to heavy foot traffic in the area.

The suspect was described as a black male in his early 20s, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall with a medium build, wearing a white T-shirt, black baseball cap and tan or yellow work boots at the time of the incident.
