PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Police in Rhode Island say a man used a potato to pretend he had a gun while trying to rob a convenience store on Monday.

WPRI reports the man entered a convenience store Monday with a potato and shouted: “Give me the money.”

According to a police report, the store manager chased the man off with a baseball bat.

Officers later went to a laundromat where an employee said a man fitting the suspect’s description came in carrying a potato and yelled: “I need the money.”

The clerk handed the man a counterfeit $20 from a decoy cash register before he walked away.

No arrests have been made.
