Former Randolph Co. middle school student advocate charged with indecent liberties

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Police have arrested a former Southeastern Randolph Middle School student advocate in connection with taking indecent liberties with a student.

On Monday, the school resource officer at SRMS received a report from the principal regarding an assault on a student.

Following a joint investigation between Randolph County Schools and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Brandon Cooley Godwin, 32, of Asheboro, was identified as the suspect.

Godwin was charged with indecent liberties with a student and turned himself in at the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

Godwin was confined in the Randolph County Jail under a $15,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court April 24.

The case is still under investigation.
