Elderly couple die in Granville Co. house fire

GRANVILLE COUNTY, N.C. — An elderly woman and her husband have died after a fire destroyed their home early Tuesday morning.

It happened around 2 a.m. in the 1600 block of Hester Road in the Creedmoor/Stem area, according to WTVD.

Officials say that the couple, who were in their late 70s or early 80s, was found inside the burning single-story home after a person driving by spotted the flames.

The unidentified woman was declared dead at the scene. Her husband was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The home was completely gutted in the fire. The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time.

The State Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating.
