SALISBURY — A Rowan County family is calling for action after their loved one was severely injured in a crash involving a suspected drunk driver.

The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident that happened on St. Paul Church Road in Salisbury Saturday afternoon.

Troopers said a truck driven by Mark Carter crossed the center line and struck another truck driven by Chris Brown.

Carter and Brown were both transported to Carolina’s Medical Center with severe injuries. Both were listed in good condition as of Sunday, according to hospital officials.

According to Brown’s family, Chris suffered a broken hip that will require multiple surgeries and years of rehabilitation.

Troopers told WSOC that Carter had limited driving privileges after his license was suspended due to a prior DWI conviction.

“He was convicted of DWI in August 2013 in Rowan County,” said Trooper Kevin Barringer, with NC Highway Patrol. “He was not allowed to be driving on the weekends.”

Investigators said the state may seize Carter’s truck because they said this marks his second DWI offense. Troopers also said Carter is facing jail time and his license could be suspended for an additional four years.

“A judge would decide if he again receives privileges to drive to places, like work,” said Trooper Barringer. “The investigation is still ongoing. We are waiting on the results of Carter’s B.A.C.”
