WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Students at Wake Forest University came up with a colorful way to help elementary students express themselves.

Wake students gathered in Manchester Plaza on Wednesday and helped younger students paint donated desks.

The project is known as DESK, which stands for Developing Education through Student Knowledge.

The goal of the project is to provide desks, chairs and school supplies to children who need a workspace at home.

Two students at Wake came up with the idea when they noticed many children they were tutoring at a local school didn't have a place to study.
