BURLINGTON, N.C. — A woman crashed her car into a homeless shelter in Burlington Sunday after she suffered from a medical condition, became unresponsive and lost control of the car.

Ashley Patrice Downey, of Burlington, was driving on Trade Street when she became unresponsive and crashed into the Allied Churches Homeless Shelter on Fisher Street around 9:43 a.m.

Officers later determined that Downey had suffered from a medical condition that caused her to become unresponsive.

No one inside the building was injured.

Damage to the building was estimated at $10,000.
