carLand Rover’s “Transparent Bonnet” concept would make the hood of a car “virtually invisible,” making it easier for a driver to view terrain beneath the vehicle.

Using a web of camera images and projectors, the system projects the area just in front of and underneath the nose of the Land Rover concept car onto a head-up display along the lower portion of the windshield.

The simulated effect is pretty amazing, offering the ability to avoid obstacles and terrain that would otherwise be hidden by the vehicle’s hood. It would also allow the precise placement of the vehicle’s front wheels.

The system also projects incline, roll angle, steering position and other data on the windshield.
