OHIO -- A 10-year-old girl has been cited after police say she grabbed the keys to the family car and crashed it into four cars down the street.

This all happened while she was sleepwalking, police say.

They say the girl drove down the street about two and half blocks before hitting three cars and a semi-truck.

When officials arrived on the scene, the girl was scared and crying, but no one was injured.

The child's father says the girl has a developmental disability and is known to sleepwalk, but says she has never done anything this extreme.

Police have cited the girl with failure to control, not wearing a seat belt and operating a vehicle without a license.

They say this is standard procedure so the people with damage to their cars can get help from their insurance companies.

The girl was not arrested, but will have to appear in juvenile court.

Officials say the case will most likely be thrown out.

Glad nobody was hurt. If the child sleepwalks often, you would think her parents would have alarms on the doors for her own safety. This way they would know she was leaving the house.

Good excuse to use when i get pulled over next time late at night…I will say I woke up when I saw flashing blue lights and start crying and blame it on sleep walking! The things people do to get out of trouble nowadays!

You do know that people do have sleeping disorders right? I wouldn’t believe it either but my sister used to wake up and walk outside in the middle of the night check the mail and walk back to her bedroom. My parents had to put an alarm on her door and window so they could know if she was up. It was pretty crazy never anything as extreme as in the this story but you never know.

yeah, I have heard about some wild things happening to people with this disorder, but if that was the case, why wouldnt this family do the same yours did and prepare themselves for instances like this. Just seems quite odd that an 11 yr old who never drove a car before would go get keys to a car and drive…lol. If anything, charge the parents for not having things in place to avoid issues with their daughter. Leaving keys around knowing your kid sleepwalks isnt very smart preparation thats all.

It states in the article she never did anything this extreme. Why would her parents think that all of a sudden she would do something this scary?
