WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Danning Manning is the new basketball coach at Wake Forest University, arriving on campus on Tuesday.
Manning followed the school tradition of riding into campus on the back of a motorcycle driven by the Demon Deacon.
Manning comes to Wake Forest after spending two seasons as the head coach at the University of Tulsa. He was named the 2013-14 Conference USA Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Hurricane to the conference championship and a berth in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Tulsa’s first appearance since 2003.
Manning succeeds Jeff Bzdelik, who resigned on March 20 after four seasons, and will be Wake Forest’s third basketball coach since Skip Prosser’s untimely death in July, 2007.
Manning was 38-29 in two seasons as head coach at Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane overcame a stumbling start this past season to win 11 straight games, beat Louisiana Tech for the Conference USA Championship and earn the school’s first berth in the NCAA Tournament since 2003.
