Body found inside Greensboro pawn shop fire
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police said a body was found inside a Greensboro pawn shop that caught fire on Monday morning.
Investigators are still on the scene Tuesday.
Crews responded to the two-alarm fire at USA Pawn on Randleman Road on Monday morning. The fire was first reported around 8:45 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters attempted to enter the pawn shop but had to retreat due to heavy smoke and concerns the building’s roof may collapse.
After the flames were extinguished and firefighters conducted a search of the interior of the building, they found a deceased person inside.
The person has not been identified and the cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Medical Examiner.
The cause of the fire is being jointly investigated by the Greensboro Police Department and the Greensboro Fire Department.
Because the origin of the fire is unknown, and the manner of death is unknown, police are treating this as a crime scene.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
