Protesters push Westboro Baptist Church out of Oklahoma city

MOORE, Okla. – Counter protesters pushed members of the Westboro Baptist Church out of a city in Oklahoma on Sunday, according to KFOR.

The church had a permit to picket in the city of Moore for 30 minutes, from 2 to 2:30 p.m.

They had only been in front of Central Junior High for a few minutes when the people of Moore sent them packing.

Hundreds of counter protesters reportedly attended. The Westboro Baptist church members had been there less than 10 minutes when several residents started to cross the road to their side.

The church posted on its website they would be picketing in Moore. They said God sent last year’s deadly tornado as judgment on the city.

Westboro Baptist Church – These are some sick people. I am all for freedom of speech, but the things they say and do are over the line. They are some sad, sick people.

  • JB

Worshiping God is more important than all of this. Maybe the Westboro Church wasn’t perfect but pushing the Church out of the town is a death sentence.

    • dewey

they weren’t “worshiping”, they like to instigate and antagonize….and every “church” that does what they do deserves to be run out…how is it a death sentence to counter-protest an amalgamation of idiots

    • mary

JB, have you lost your mind?? Seriously? These people are trying to picket a tornado that killed CHILDREN!! This has nothing to do with “worshiping God”. These people needed to be stopped, maybe you need to join them if you feel this way. Why would you say that? I don’t understand your view point.

    • Oklahoma Firefighter

I was one of the folks that bum rushed those clowns. And I am a fiirefighter that crawled around in those houses looking for victims. If chasing them out was a ‘death sentence”, you tell them to bring it. They ran like a bunch of cockroaches when we decided we had heard enough.

      • David

As much as we hate what Westboro does, you were quite the thug by crossing the street to confront them. They had a legal permit to protest for 30 minutes, and you fascists deprived them of their First Amendment rights. I’m sure you’re proud of yourself for your vigilante justice, but you’re a hero to nobody. If they show up again, just don’t hold a counter-protest. You’re falling for their bait.

      • Oklahoma Firefighter

Dave, I have an idea. Why don’t you saddle up and head on over here the next time we have one of our tornadoes. I will personally make sure you are put in the front entry team that goes and gets these people and sometimes children out of what is left of their storm shelters, schools and homes. Then come back and tell me I was a thug. Until then, continue on allowing these folks to soil the memories of those innocent children and fatalities in our natural disasters.

      • David

Hey, if you want to give Westboro exactly what it wants by responding in that manner, I guess that’s your prerogative. They showed up outside of a school on a Sunday, and you fell for it. Suckers.

      • Oklahoma Firefighter

And JT, it was an honor. And I will do it again if need be. Thank you for your support.

      • Oklahoma Firefighter

Yes Dave, it is my right. And as for the fascist comment, I will let that one slide. So I take it you are going to decline the invite to crawl around in the debris and help the rest of the fascists we have on our department? I’m not a hero, but I bet I help out my community alot more that some clown talking down to people that are doing the right thing.

      • David

Do you want a pat on the back for fulfilling your job description? It’s not as if you had no idea what you were getting into, or that you were asked to go above and beyond what you are being PAID to accomplish.

      • David

You will “let that one slide” in regard to the “fascist” portion? Oh, no! What would have happened to me if you hadn’t allowed that one to slide?

      • Oklahoma Firefighter

Are you still here Dave? And by the way, I am a volunteer. I don’t get paid a dime to do what I do. Which, by the way is 85% of all firefighters in the US. That is what the US is about. Not worrying about the paycheck and helping out others less fortunate than ourselves. You on the other hand, I am guessing, are college student somewhere taking Liberal Arts or the drive thru guy at Taco Bell. And the next time you need some help from the Fascist Firefighters, call a cop when your house is on fire.

Ran like cockroaches…typical from these people…were they not the same ones that requested no one to picket their minister that just passed away….shame GOD does not send a lightning bolt through that so called church….Even though I am on the east coast….thanks so much for your service and the work that you do OK Firefighter….especially running those pricks back to their hole in the wall!

Obviously JB you did not read the article, or so it seems. It also seems like you have been living under a rock for quite some time, seeing as you apparently know nothing about Westboro Baptist Church and their “protests”. I am a Christian and under NO circumstance can this HATE group call themselves the same while spreading their hate for those that GOD called us to LOVE. They were not worshipping or even protesting anything that would make a positive change on anyone’s behalf. They do have a right to free speech, which they were practicing, but so were the others. God gave us an example of loving those who are different from us, not place judgement upon them. It is also not our place to say that God struck down the people of Moore, OK because of sin in their lives. It is wrong and outright disrespectful!

  • mary

David, If one of your children would have been one to die in that school when that tornado hit, do you think you would be so quick to call Oklahoma Firefighter a thug? I think anyone in that position would have easily been one crossing the street with them. It’s easy to judge what they did when it wasn’t your community or your children involved. They had a personal investment in this, you did not. You should have more compassion and not resort to name calling. You’ve really show your ignorance by doing so.

    • Oklahoma Firefighter

Mary, I am guessing he probably doesn’t have any children since he is saying all of this. If he thinks this is the way we roll in Oklahoma, he is wrong. I appreciate your kind words and so do the “thugs” in Oklahoma.

      • Jennifer

Just want you to know that I greatly appreciate what you and others like you did last year. My husband has family that live in Moore and we got a chance this past summer to visit them. The devastation could still be seen even in August. You just have to disregard idiots like David. They generally don’t have a clue and have never had to experience what the people of Moore did. You just keep up doing what you are doing and standing up for what’s right.

  • Tom

The first amendment only protects against the US government infringing on freedom of speech. This is why you can get fired for something stupid that you have said, and why it is perfectly legal for citizens to drive groups like WBC out of town (if done in a non-violent way- like the folks in OK). Just because you have the right to say something doesn’t make it right. Like calling a firefighter a thug, David, you need a serious reality check. And a brain.

  • OkieGirl

As a fellow Okie, I know what those people went through. My family, several friends, and I went up there to help clean up the mess and help people pick up what was left of their lives. I have family that lives in Mustang, OK. They told me how incredibly terrifying it was just being that close to it. Words cannot describe how terrible the aftermath was. You had to see it to believe it. People (parents, children, grandparents, etc) digging through the remains of houses sobbing and calling out for their loved ones or their beloved pets in hopes that somehow, they’d still be alive. It was gruesome and so incredibly sad. I applaud all the people that stood against the Westboro Cult. If I had been there, I would have done the same. Enough is enough. OK Firefighter, thank you for all you did and continue to do!

    • Oklahoma Firefighter

it was a privledge and an honor to get those folks out of our state. Okie Girl, I appreciate the kind words and when they come back, come on out with the rest of us “thugs” and help us welcome them back in our own special way.
