Doctor accused of slapping anesthetized patients on buttocks, calling them names
SYTACUSE, N.Y. – A New York doctor is accused of slapping anesthetized patients on the buttocks and called them derogatory names before surgery.
Syracuse.com reported that Dr. Michael T. Clarke is accused of slapping some patients so hard that he would sometimes leave red marks or hand prints on them.
Clarke is an orthopedic surgeon at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center who specializes in hip replacement and resurfacing. The inappropriate behavior allegedly went on for at least a year and the hospital did nothing about it.
A staffer reported the doctor’s behavior to administrators early last year, according to a report by the federal Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The hospital is now facing a possible termination from the Medicare and Medicaid programs which pay for the majority of patients treated in hospitals.
