CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte leaders are expected to pick the city’s next mayor during their meeting Monday, according to WSOC-TV.
City Council members are looking for someone to fill the seat for the 21 months Patrick Cannon had left in his term when he resigned.
Cannon’s resignation came after he was arrested on federal corruption charges last week.
Federal investigators said Cannon took thousands of dollars in bribes from undercover agents posing as developers and investors.
A Charlotte attorney said it is likely Cannon’s lawyer has already talked with federal prosecutors about ways to avoid a trial. If so, Cannon could be looking at a plea deal.
