TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Five-year-old Devin Montoya doesn’t want toys, video games or a party for his birthday. Instead, Devin wants 100 birthday cards.
Given every Crayola color, Devin’s favorite is blue. He uses that crayon to color the sky, the wind and create a spring time sunny day.
But there's a cloud in the picture – his family is new to Travis Air Force base. It seems to be hard for him to make new friends.
Devin turns six in a few days. When his mother asked him what he wanted, he said “100 birthday cards.”
"I said, 'Devin, have you thought about it ,' and he said, 'Yes ma'am. I want 100 birthday cards.' And I said, 'Oh, 100. I don't know how i'm going to get that done,' and I said, 'Can I get you 100?' and he said, 'get them from different people,'" his mom, Jessica Robinson, said.
Devin’s mother said he wants the cards to make 100 new friends.
He wants someone to swing with. Someone who can do monkey bars. Maybe someone who likes to color.
Devin’s mother said he boy was born to just love people.
She said the message doesn’t have to be much and can just say “happy birthday to Devin.” It’s the smile of a lonely boy opening a stack of cards that would be so powerful.
Devin's celebrates his birthday on April 13.
