GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — The Guilford County DSS Board has appointed Myra Thompson as Interim DSS Director effective immediately.
The board announced its decision Tuesday.
The news comes a day after former Guilford County DSS Director Robert Williams turned in his resignation following a growing controversy surrounding a large backlog of food stamp recertifications that could cost the state over $80 million federal aid.
Prior to joining DSS, Thompson worked in the Guilford County Budget Office. She has served Guilford County for 20 years. Most recently, she has spent the past seven years as the DSS Administrative Services Division Director.
Thompson has also served the County as Interim Director of Transportation. She has a degree in Business Management from Columbia College in Columbia, S.C.
Dr. Jeffrey Williams has also accepted the appointment as Interim Assistant Director. He currently serves as the Division Director for Child and Family Services.
