Camille’s Closet offering free prom dresses

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Volunteers are helping teenage girls interested in attending their high school prom, but can't afford a formal dress.

Camille's Closet was open for the first of two days Wednesday and will open again on April 17. Teenage girls are invited to shop in Camille's Closet, a project made up of volunteers who gather new or gently-used formal dresses and accessories for young ladies to attend their prom.

"I had been praying for a blessing," said Pat Alameen who brought her daughter Alexis to find a dress. "This is a blessing."

For the past two months volunteers with the Greensboro Youth Volunteers have been gathering the dresses and preparing Camille's Closet for two shopping days.

"Prom is really an experience every girl needs to have," said Sarah Smith a volunteer leading this year’s program. "I know a lot of girls sometimes say oh I can't go to prom this year, the prom dresses are so expensive so I tell them hey, come to Camille's Closet."

The event is first come, first serve. Camille's Closet will open again on Thursday, April 17 from 5-8:30 p.m. For more information contact 336-373-2740.
