KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. – North Carolina is looking to ground its motto, “First in Flight.”
WTKR reported that the Brand NC Project’s aim is to create a new state identity, drawing on the Tar Heel’s state natural beauty and culture.
“It’s a good name, better than Ohio birthplace of aviation or whatever they have,” said Casey Coats of Kill Devil Hills. “We’re the first and the best.”
Getting rid of “First in Flight” would push the Outer Banks out of the state’s slogan.
North Carolina’s project is trying to emulate the success of its northern neighbor’s “Virginia is for Lovers” campaign.
Brand NC is taking submissions from people until Tuesday. The winner will receive $2,000.
