HERTFORD COUNTY, N.C. — More than 50 dogs were rescued from a Hertford County home by the SPCA and Hertford County Animal Control, according to WTKR.

Police tell WTKR at least half the animals found inside the home have been removed.

The owner was charged with animal cruelty last week and agreed to surrender the animals but refused to allow anyone onto his property. He brought many of the animals out to Animal Control.

By Monday afternoon, police obtained a search warrant to go onto the property, where more dogs were discovered.

Some of the dogs will be transported to the Guilford County Animal Shelter. They are expected to arrive around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The owner claims he rescues the animals.
