CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Monday, Duke Energy will pitch an idea to Charlotte City Council and Mayor Patrick Cannon to move coal ash away from Mountain Island Lake and bury it at Charlotte Douglas Airport.

Officials say they will discuss the idea and make sure there is public input before a decision is made.

A spill from a coal ash dump in Eden last month coated the Dan River in toxic sludge.

The Department of Natural Resources is working with the Environmental Protection Agency to clean up the spill.

  • its my business

I have a second home in Eden. We haven’t drank the water for a couple years. Can someone explain how one would move the coal ash dump that is a spill in Eden last month that coated the Dan River in toxic sludge to Charlotte Airport to “bury” it? My pea brain does not understand how this is possible. I can’t wait to see how this evolves!!
